OnlyWatch 2023: Time for Compassion
A Brief History
Founded in 2005 by Luc Pettavino, OnlyWatch was inspired by his son's struggle with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The auction's mission is to raise funds and awareness for this rare and debilitating genetic disorder.
Beyond the allure of these exceptional watches lies the essence of Only Watch – a commitment to making a difference. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare and devastating condition, and the funds raised during the auction go towards research and support for those affected.
With each winning bid, the horological community and philanthropists come together, proving that compassion and generosity can shine as brightly as the masterpieces on display. Since its inception, OnlyWatch has grown exponentially, garnering support from top-tier watch brands eager to contribute to the cause.
In the weeks preceding the auction, the watches are presented to the public, media, and horological enthusiasts, during a promotional tour across 8 cities: Los Angeles, New York, Monaco, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai and Geneva.

Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force Only Watch
The Gravity Equal Force movement is completely developed and manufactured in-house by Armin Strom. This unique iteration of the Gravity Equal Force ‘Ultimate Sapphire’ incorporates the promotional colors of the 2023 Only Watch event, with relevant details including a transparent green sapphire dial, a red logo and blue stitching on the included custom strap. Together with surrounding colourful details, the off-centre sapphire dial forms a deconstructed rainbow, which shares the dial-face attention with Armin Strom’s signature tri-bridge design.
Sylvain Pinaud Origine Only Watch
Handcrafted exclusively for Only Watch at Sylvain Pinaud's atelier, the Unique Origine timepiece beautifully embodies the watchmaker's philosophy, paying homage to the art of horology. Its two-tone dial features a contemporary pattern, intricately guilloched for a captivating design. The complex and multi-layered dial ensures readability, with stunning shades of blue seamlessly blending throughout the piece. Notably, the hands and balance bridge showcase the traditional flame blue, adding a touch of originality to the timepiece.
The blue dial, complemented by a black-polished steel cartouche, accentuates depth and contrast, creating a visually striking effect. The movement's construction prioritizes reliability and chronometry, with components designed and manufactured for exceptional precision and durability for generations to come. Proportional to the soft and rounded case, the graceful sweep of the lugs ensures a comfortable and elegant wearability, exuding a sense of formal charm. The balance wheel further highlights the watch's dynamic, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of its creation.
Moritz Grossmann Tremblage Only Watch
Tremblage involves a surface being finished by hand using a range of engraving burins. The tools are moved across the metal in a trembling motion, which is also where the name comes from, with the French ‘tremblant’ meaning ‘to tremble’ in English. The challenge in this is to create an even look. It gives rise to a rough but matt effect that dampens the incident light on the dial of the special model and makes the tremblage surface appear beautifully matt.
Once tremblage has been applied to the German silver dial, it undergoes a galvanising treatment. The surface is rhodium-plated, creating a tint. This lends even more expression to the tremblage engraving.
The raised elements of the dial – numerals, indices, the manufactory logo and the inscriptions ‘Only Watch’ and ‘Made in Germany’ – are then finely brush finished. This scales a light German silver hue in a fine nuance.
Ludovic Ballouard X Brittany Nicole Cox Upside Down Blue Feather
For Only Watch 2023, acclaimed independent watchmaker Ludovic Ballouard has teamed up with accomplished guilloché artist Brittany Nicole Cox to present a one-of-a-kind platinum edition of Ballouard’s time-only tour de force Upside Down. More than a unique timepiece, Upside Down Blue Feather offers a unique message of hope, generosity and protection, in keeping with the values of Only Watch. Its sapphire-blue fine silver dial is decorated with an eye-catching hand-guilloché pattern depicting birds in flight.
This original motif – boasting a multitude of carefully-placed cuts and facets – was designed and engine-turned by Cox, who took inspiration from Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” to create it. While the soaring birds denote optimism, resilience and perseverance, their blue feathers symbolise looking out for and giving back to others.
Only the current hour is displayed the right way up, reminding us it is only the present moment that truly matters.
